“In the current state of bankruptcy, Islamophobia is re-emerging. The presence is actually recorded even in various media campaigns today. They are antipathy towards everything that contains Islam. On the issue of Sharia law, the wish is clear," said Lukman Hakiem, author of a book on Islamic history and personalities as well as the late former president general of Masyumi and former Prime Minister of Indonesia Mr Natsir. The “political compromise" – which borrows the term kasman Singodimedjo – to refer to reaching consensus in the preparation of Pancasila is in fact an early phase of the process of struggle, interpretation of the understanding and implementation of each commandment in Pancasila, based on the teachings of Islam. The Masyumi party – which is linked to Muhammadiyah – fulfills Pancasila`s interpretation on the basis of the teachings of Islam. The attitude of Muhammadiyah`s Central Leadership corresponds to the vision of the Masyumi party in formulating and interpreting the principles in Pancasila. The political process in Parliament, played by the Masyumi party and supported by Muhammadiyah figures, continues to go back and forth – with other parties able to deal with these parties, in particular the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) and the Indonesian National Party (PNI). The agreement, called the Gentlemen`s Agreement, aims to reach a successful agreement between the policies and philosophies of the administration of that country, which are contained in the last paragraph of the Charter. This part is better known as “Pancasila." Here is a passage from the last paragraph of the Jakarta Charter. Kasman Singodimedjo had an ideological closeness to Ki Bagus Hadikusuma because he was registered as a member and also as an executive of Muhammadiyah.
Kasman`s perseverance and logical reasoning convinced Ki Bagus Hadikusuma to accept the proposal to abolish the “seven words" in the Jakarta Charter. In addition to the individual capacity factor Kasman Singodimedjo, the ideological engzing factor, namely the relationship between the two as Muhammadiyah`s team, contributed to the success of the negotiation process. The mutual agreement reached during the formulation of Pancasila has often been described in recent times by many observers as the “greatest gift" of Muslims to the Indonesian nation. (Hadikusuma, the river of renewal… 104-105). Since the adoption of the decree of 5 July 1959, all the laws that replace the 1945 Constitution, namely the SIF Constitution and the Provisional Constitution of 1950, which came into force after the Natsir Integral Motion, are no longer valid. The Constitution, which had been 90% finalized by the Constituent Assembly, was also adopted. Finally, the decree paves the way for the revision of the 1945 Constitution of the 18 August agreement. However, in the text of the new staging of the 1945 Constitution, there is a clause that is a form of accommodation by Sukarno against Islamist groups, abandoned since the events of August 18, 1945 and the failure of the Constituent Assembly. The clause is: “Let us believe that the Jakarta Charter of 22 June 1945 animates the 1945 Constitution and that it is a unit with the Constitution." If we refer to the historical spirit of Pancasila, there are in principle some things that should be an important point for us in extending the sustainability mandate of this beloved country.
